Our History

In March of the seventy-fifth year of Zion Cathedral of Praise International Ministires, God made all things well! Praise be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The Historical Account

Zion Tabernacle Church of the Apostolic Faith PAW (AKA: Zion Cathedral of Praise International Ministries-ZCPIM) had its humble beginnings in October, 1936 by our founder the late Evangelist Irene Wood from, Detroit. Michigan. With the blessing of her pastor, the late Bishop Samuel N. Hancock, she began preaching the Word of God on the street corners of Port Huron, Michigan until God moved upon the heart of Sister Cora Harris to open her home and Evangelist Wood started a small congregation, then named Bethlehem Temple # 2, as an offspring from Bishop Hancock of Detroit, Michigan’s church Bethlehem Temple.

Pastor Wood became ill, in 1945, and moved back to Detroit. Elder Pink Patterson stepped in as interim pastor for a short period of time, until Elder Charles Brown with his wife Minnie Brown, left Detroit, Michigan, in 1947, and was elected the pastor of Bethlehem Temple # 2.

During his pastoral tenure the church converted a house at 110 Fort Street as their second place of worship. Through great gospel revivals and Pastor Brown’s teaching and preaching, many souls begin to be added to the church. In 1950 a new edifice was purchased at 3404 Twenty-Fourth Street, the pastor and membership agreed to change the name to Zion Tabernacle Church of the Apostolic Faith, PAW Inc.

In 1972, Pastor Charles Brown was called home to be with the Lord. Elder Alex Kitchen was elected pastor in 1973 and remained pastor until he moved back to Georgia were he passed. Deacon KC Norman, and his wife Mamie Norman, who are still members of Zion, held the church together for eighteen months. Deacon Norman taught bible classes and secured quest ministers until a pastor was prayerfully obtained.

In 1990 Pastor John and Lisa Tate became pastors of Zion Tabernacle Church of the Apostolic Faith, PAW Inc. They continued to serve faithfully, and the congregation began to grow. In 2002 Bishop John I. Tate Sr. saw the vision to build a church for the Glory of God, and after many perils, adversities, and setbacks, under the leadership and great faith of his former pastor, Bishop John Tate, Zion church family marched in process from 3404 Moak Street into our current edifice, which the congregation agreed to change the name to Zion Cathedral of Praise.

In 1993, after much prayer, God spoke to Bishop, then Elder and Sister Lisa Tate, and they added to the ministerial staff and installed, Evangelist Kimberly Brown, Detroit Michigan, as Assistant Pastor. In 1994 Elder Jeff Clint was added to the ministerial staff as Second Assistant Pastor, he remained at Zion for three years and was led of God to return to his home church in Toledo, Ohio. He was soon called to relocate and pastor a challenged ministry in Denver, Colorado, were he and his wife serve Gods’ people to this day.

In 2009 Pastor John and Lisa Tate, felt a leading of the Lord to take a church in Florida, and in early October, 2009 Assistant Pastor Kim Brown was recommended as pastor elect and the church body, unanimously elected Pastor Kim Brown, as the of Zion Cathedral of Praise, and in January, 2010, Pastor Kimberly Brown, was set as senior pastor.

In May of 2010, Pastor Allen Gilbert, Sister Sandra Gilbert, and his family joined the ZCPIM Church family. Pastor Gilbert was installed 1st Assistant Pastor, in May of 2011, and he served in this capacity till, July, 2013.

God was still at work raising up and anointed leader from within that had faithfully stood by Pastor Kim’s side serving her and God’s people over the years.  In July of 2011, Pastor Audrey Morris then 2nd Assistant Pastor, was installed as Sr. Asst. Pastor.  She, her husband, and family are a continual blessing to Pastor Kim, Deacon Tony, and the Zion church family.

Pastor Kim in that year made a request to the Lord and declaration to the people that in 7 years we wanted to pay off the mortgage, the church faithfully paid its mortgage, and in January 2017, by the divine providence and generous donation of the Nehemiah Foundation Group the church's remaining debt was liquidated. In seven years we went from foreclosure to debt liquidation, to God be the Glory for the things he has done.

What We Believe and Teach

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." ~ Acts 2:38

We Believe and Teach...

The Bible

Is the inspired Word of God to man, which contains the entire Word of God.

One God

Who is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, self-sufficient, who has manifested Himself as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Jesus the Son of God

God manifested, made known in the flesh, God incarnate, and is called the Son of the God in human relationship and redemption.

Man’s Fall and Redemption

Man was created in the image of God, but by exercise of his own will transgressed the will of God and fell into sin. And that his only hope of redemption is through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Salvation of Man

Man is saved by faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:8-9) • Saving faith is evidenced by water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus ( St Mark 16:16-17: St Luke 24:44-48’Acts 1:8; 2:38, 10:44-44; 19:5-6 • Baptism of the Holy Ghost, which is promised by God to all who will receive him. (St. John 3:3-8, 7:28; Acts 1:8 , 2:1-4, Romans 8:9 • and by a life lived in harmony with the principles of God’s Word (Romans 6:1-5; 8:1-15; 12:1-2)
